The Symposium of History of Monasticism and Monasteries at Wadi al-Natrun ( February 1-4, 2002)

This memorable Symposium was held at St. Pshoy Monastery in Wadi al-Natrun and was hosted by His Holiness Pope Shenouda III who housed the 50 to 60 participants and attendees in his private residence at the monastery. His Holiness spoke on modern day monasticism in the area at the opening session, attended by more than 100 people. The papers and presentations by the most distinguished experts in their fields dealt with the art, architecture, archeology, geology, history, literature, and the most recent excavations and finds in the area. Despite the fact that the Wadi al-Natrun symposium was a closed and unpublicized meeting, it received a lot of unprecedented attention from the Egyptian media, including El Keraza, Al Ahram, Al Ahram Weekly, Akhbar Al Adab, Watani, and Al Helal.  [Go to the top]
